Real time weather in Google Earth
November 16th, 2007
I’ve been a little slow to pick up on the new weather feature that’s appeared in the revised Layers panel of Google Earth. I usually assume that real time data in Google Earth applies only to places in the USA, but here’s a comparison of this evening’s Met Office infrared image with the corresponding view in Google Earth. Google Earth is clearly displaying close to real time imagery. This is going to be an incredibly useful tool for teaching weather. I also love the fact that one can zoom through the clouds so they don’t obscure the ground view. At ground level, try tilting the view to look upwards at the clouds.
